Applied Ultrasonics Proves UIT Benefits With Fatigue Life, BOEM Yearly Inspection Extensions

Applied Ultrasonics proved the benefits of UIT on a floating oil production and offloading vessel in 2009, improving the time to fatigue failure, strength and life of critical connections in the hull and side-mounted turret structure. In 2011, this satisfied customer returned to Applied Ultrasonics seeking to improve the fatigue life of critical welds, this time on the vessel’s turret buoy. In addition to having concern with the designed fatigue life, the client was also forced to perform a monthly non-destructive examination of the weld for the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM). After UIT ultrasonic treatment, fatigue is no longer a factor and BOEM extended the inspection period to yearly.
